This feature is available in QAlity Plus - Test Management for Jira exclusively.

With the Test Case Repository feature in the QAlity Plus app, you can easily create folders and subfolders.

Creating folders

To create a folder, click the Create Folder button. You will find it at the top of the Repository navigation panel on the left.

A folder creation modal will appear, requesting you to enter the new folder’s name. Folder names do not have to be unique. You will also be requested to choose the main project for your folder. The access to the folder will be based on the permissions of the selected main project.

It’s important to note that you can add to your folder test cases from multiple different projects. The only purpose of choosing the main project is to set the permissions for the new folder. You can learn more about folder permissions here.

Once you’ve created a new folder, it will appear on the list in the navigation panel on the left. There are two types of folder icons - a filled one, indicating that there are test cases in the folder, and a hollow one, indicating that the folder is empty.

Creating subfolders

You can also create subfolders in your parent folder. When in the folder, click on the Create Subfolder button.

Notice that the possibility of changing the project is blocked. That’s because the subfolder permission settings are always based on the parent folder permission settings.

Once you’ve created a new subfolder, it will appear on the list in the navigation panel on the left and at the top when you’re in the parent folder.

You can create an unlimited number of subfolders in a parent folder. The subfolders can be nested in the parent folder or in any other subfolder within the parent folder. For example, in the screenshot below I have created the following hierarchy:

  1. Regression 18.06.2025 [Parent Folder]

    1. Second Part [Subfolder]

    2. First Part [Subfolder]

      1. First Part B [Subfolder]

      2. First Part A [Subfolder]

        1. First Part A 1.0 [Subfolder]

This is the view from the First Part subfolder which contains two additional subfolders. You can also see that the app informs you if the subfolder includes more folders:

Please note that the order of your folders and subfolders on the list depends on when they were created. This means that the folder or subfolder created last will be positioned the highest on the list. Currently, it is not possible to change the order in which the folders are displayed.

Navigation through folders

There are two methods of navigation through your hierarchy of folders.

  1. You can enter them from the left-side list.

  1. You can enter your folders and display their content from the main view. Once you enter a folder you can see its subfolders. To see the subfolder’s test cases click on the expand icon.

You can also enter a particular subfolder from the main view by clicking on the ‘Open folder’ button.
